published date:2024-09-09

In late 2022, Beijing Materials Handling Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as “BMH”) reached a notable milestone by completing the construction of seven ropeways in a single day. BMH successfully completed several ropeway projects on December 29, including the Beidahu Ski Resort No. 7 ropeway in Jilin, the Jiangjun Hill-Ski Field No. 6 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Jikepulin Ski Resort N1, N2, M2, and E1 ropeways in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (notably, the E1 ropeway operates in two segments, A and B, allowing for both large and small circulations). The Jiangjun Hill-Ski Field No. 6 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was developed with funding from the Cultural, Sports, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau of Altay Prefecture in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture (Cultural Relics Bureau of Altay Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region), and the Altay Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd. The ropeway is designed as a mono-cable detachable grip 8-MGD system, with a total horizontal length of 1,671 meters and a vertical rise of 377 meters. It includes 15 pylons along the way, achieves a maximum run speed of 6 meters per second, and can transport up to 2,000 passengers per hour (PPH) in one way. Altay boasts a long and distinguished skiing culture, acknowledged as one of the origins of human skiing. Located in the city center of Altay, the Jiangjun Hill International Ski Resort is recognized as the only city-based alpine ski resort in China. The resort currently offers 61 ski trails, with a combined length of 65 kilometers, a snow-making coverage area of 185 hectares, and more than 300 hectares of off-trail skiing. Its total hourly capacity is 16,000 visitors.

The Jikepulin Ski Resort ropeways in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were developed with investment from Altay Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd. BMH has constructed six detachable ropeways and one fixed grip ropeway for this ski resort.

The Jikepulin Ski Resort N1 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, operates as a mono-cable detachable 8-MGD ropeway. It has a horizontal length of 1,002 meters and a vertical rise of 465 meters, with a peak run speed of 6 meters per second and a designed one-way capacity of 2,200 PPH.

The Jikepulin Ski Resort N2 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, operates as a mono-cable fixed grip four-seat chairlift ropeway. It measures 538 meters in horizontal length and features a vertical rise of 163 meters, with a maximum run speed of 1.8 meters per second and a designed one-way capacity of 1,000 PPH.

The Jikepulin Ski Resort M2 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, operates as a mono-cable detachable 8-MGD system. It covers a horizontal length of 2,015 meters with a vertical rise of 604 meters, reaching a maximum run speed of 6 meters per second and accommodating a designed one-way capacity of 2,000 PPH.

The Jikepulin Ski Resort E1 ropeway in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a mono-cable detachable grip 8-MGD ropeway. This represents a milestone in the development of detachable ropeways. This ropeway boasts a total horizontal length of 4,715 meters and a vertical rise of 1,330 meters. It is equipped with 155 eight-seat gondolas and installed with 36 pylons along its entire length. These four statistics represent the highest benchmarks in Asia for ski ropeways. The ropeway operates at a maximum run speed of 6 meters per second, achieving a maximum one-way capacity of 2,400 PPH. This ropeway is the latest embodiment of detachable ropeway technology from BMH, consisting of two segments that facilitate both large and small circular operations. The middle station is an underground drive station, with the upper and lower stations acting as anchoring and tensioning stations. The middle station includes an automated underground parking system, designed with a commitment to environmental sustainability, thereby minimizing the architectural impact on the natural landscape.

Located in Hemu Township within the Kanas Scenic Spot, which is recognized as a national 5A-level tourist attraction, the Jikepulin International Ski Resort has an overall planned area of 5,129 hectares. The recent planning covers 3,128 hectares, while the long-term plan encompasses an additional 2,001 hectares. With a peak elevation of 2,848 meters and a maximum vertical rise of 1,466 meters, the ski resort holds the record as the highest and most challenging ski field in China. Comprising 103 ski runs, the resort offers 8 runs with a vertical rise that exceeds 1,000 meters. The total length of the runs is 108 kilometers, which includes 38 kilometers for off-piste skiing. The area designated for groomed slopes covers 392 hectares, while the off-piste area occupies 110 hectares, with additional backcountry skiing areas surpassing 2,500 hectares. The Jikepulin International Ski Resort provides a distinctive skiing experience for snow lovers and is an essential part of the strategic planning for the Altay Ice and Snow Tourism Region, aiming to establish itself as a world-class global destination for ice and snow tourism. The author of this press release has previously commented that only the Jikepulin ski resort deserves the title of a ski resort, while others are fundamentally ski runs. The awe-inspiring beauty can be felt even through photographs, offering a captivating visual display of snow.

Beginning in 2020, BMH has built 12 ropeways for the three main ski resorts under Xinjiang Altay Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd., featuring 11 detachable ropeways and one fixed grip ropeway, along with multiple additional ropeways in development.
